We carefully review and consider all submitted résumés. However, not all applicants are invited to participate in all steps of the screening process. Please note that these are our minimum application requirements. Meeting our minimum application requirements alone does not guarantee that you will be selected. Candidates with a master’s degree in a relevant education or language-related field and prior experience teaching ESL or a foreign language are given very strong priority in our selection process.
In order to apply to become an inlingua English (ESL) instructor, you must meet the following requirements:
- Have excellent (native or near-native) proficiency in English. Complete grammatical and lexical command as well as literacy skills equivalent to those of an educated native speaker of the language are required for approval to teach with inlingua.
- Required Academic Qualifications:
(a) Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
(b) hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in any field and also hold an additional qualification in TESOL (such as a TEFL/TESL certificate, graduate certificate in TESOL, CELTA or DELTA)
(c) hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in any field and also have a documented knowledge base and skill set that includes, at a minimum, the following areas: (i) language teaching methodologies, (ii) the nature of language/linguistics (e.g., introduction to linguistics), (iii) the structure of English, (iv) second language acquisition (SLA); (v) intercultural communication and (vi) language teaching practicum experience.
For those applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a field other than TESOL and who also lack an additional qualification in TESOL, the required knowledge base and skill set must be documented through formal education and training (i.e., college or university coursework). While informal training may be helpful, it cannot substitute for formal education and training in the required knowledge base and skill set. We will not, under any circumstances, consider an applicant who lacks an awarded bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited institution of higher education.
- Have experience relevant to teaching ESL or foreign languages to students at the postsecondary (adult education) level or else be willing to participate in an instructor mentoring program upon hire if your ESL or foreign language teaching experience has not been to adults.
- Have legal authorization to work in the United States at the time you apply.
- Reside near one or more of our nine Florida language centers at the time you apply. Due to the volume of applications we receive and the nature of our new instructor screening process, we cannot accept applications from candidates who reside beyond the regions we serve. If you plan on moving to Florida, please wait until after your relocation to the area has been completed before you apply.
If you meet these qualifications and wish to embark on an exciting new journey as part of the inlingua team in any of our Florida language centers (South Florida Region: Aventura, Boca Raton, Coral Gables, Doral, Miami (Brickell Avenue), Key Biscayne, or Weston; Central Florida Region: Orlando and Tampa), then please e-mail your résumé with a cover letter, including the language(s) you wish to teach and the location(s) where you would like to work, to our Department of Professional Development, at email@example.com. Please be sure to direct all questions regarding our application process to Laura Pachter, Director of Professional Development, at the e-mail address above (please do not contact our individual language centers regarding the status of your application, as all new instructor recruitment is processed centrally through our Head Office).
